Disaster Technical Assistance Center Supplemental Research Bulletin: A Preliminary Look at the Mental Health and Substance Use-related Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic

This issue of the Supplemental Research Bulletin focuses on preliminary research (through November 30, 2020) on the mental health and substance use-related impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the United States. It covers changes in rates of mental health and substance use issues and conditions, suicide risk, and suicidal thoughts, and it identifies populations who are faring more poorly in terms of mental health and substance use. It describes the effects of the pandemic on individuals with preexisting mental illness. It also features expert suggestions for practices and policies to support the mental health of the U.S. public.
